Subspecies (1991)

One of the best series in the history of Full Moon, Subspecies told the story of vampire Radu and his claymation minions in his attempt to peep some euro-titties and drink some wicked blood from an amulet. He also had some long-ass fingers and a crucial lisp.

So stick your nosferatu where it doesn’t belong (Romania) and have yourselves a bloody mary, on the house, from Take My Life, Please.

  1. My favorite Full Moon series. Puppet Master would be a very close second. The claymation minions are a bit absurd and poorly done, but still add to the fun/cheesiness factor of the films. I remember back in the day being high and thinking what a badass Radu was while killing every member of his family. I also vividly remember the scene where Radu's head is chopped off, although I don't remember if that was part 1 or the beginning of part 2. Great stuff from Full Moon. Wish they still made'em like that.

  2. LOL, they killed Radu so many times, it's impossible to remember which one had his head severed. I remember him being stabbed, decapitated, set on fire, and more. It was awesome how he was just a rebel vampire who massacred his father, like you said. It's also crazy that his dad was played by Angus Scrimm from Phantasm. But yeah, Subspecies is the shit. It's my dad's favorite horror series of all time. His good friends still refer to him as "Radu" lol. I got him the boxset a few years back for Father's Day. It's barebones as shit, but I bought it new from Amazon new/used and got it at a FAR better price than from the Full Moon site.

I'm also with you on Puppet Master. I own the boxset of those. I actually need to stick up my trailer for part 3. I'll dedicate it to ya! lol.

  3. Ah yes, The Tall Man Angus Scrimm. Wish he would have had a bigger role. I believe he was killed off within the first 5 mins. I don't have the boxset, but I do have each film individually. Been awhile since I watched them. Trying to keep up with all the new horror is hard enough. I must say that there are way too many new independent horror movies made these days that are just plain awful. Not that there was never awful movies released back in the day, but I don't remember them being turned out at such an alarming rate. Your dad sounds like a cool guy. And I'll take the dedication for PM3, thank you very much!
